Gedeón Guardiola Villaplana (born October 1, 1984) is a famous Spanish handball player. He plays as a pivot, which is a key position in handball. Currently, he plays for Club Balonmano Nava. He is also a very important player for the Spanish national handball team. Gedeón has won many big awards, including a World Championship title in 2013. He is the twin brother of Isaías Guardiola, who is also a handball player.

Gedeón Guardiola's Handball Journey

Gedeón Guardiola started playing handball in his hometown of Petrer, Spain. He played for local clubs before joining Valencia in 2001. He made his first professional appearance there in the 2002-2003 season. In 2005, he moved to SD Teucro.

After playing for Ciudad Logroño for one season, he joined SDC San Antonio in 2009. He played many games in the top Spanish league, Liga ASOBAL, scoring hundreds of goals.

Playing in Germany

In 2012, Gedeón moved to Germany to play for Rhein-Neckar Löwen. His twin brother, Isaías, also played for this team. With Rhein-Neckar Löwen, Gedeón won the EHF Cup in 2013. This was a big European club competition.

He also helped his team win the German Championship two years in a row, in 2016 and 2017. They also won the DHB-Supercup three times from 2016 to 2018. Gedeón played for Rhein-Neckar Löwen until 2020.

After that, he joined TBV Lemgo and then HC Erlangen. In February 2024, Gedeón decided to return to Spain. He joined Club Balonmano Nava and will play for them until the end of the 2025 season. He has played many games in the German Bundesliga, scoring hundreds of goals.

Playing for Spain: National Team Highlights

Gedeón Guardiola first played for the Spanish youth national team in 2002. He later played for the U-21 team.

He made his debut for the Senior Spanish team in November 2011. His first major international tournament was the European Championship in 2012. Later that year, he also played in the Olympic Games.

Gedeón became a world champion with Spain at the 2013 World Championship. This was a huge achievement for him and his team. He also won a bronze medal at the 2014 European Championship.

He continued to play for Spain in big tournaments, including the 2015 World Championship.

European and Olympic Success

Gedeón had great success at the European Championships. He won back-to-back gold medals with the Spanish team in 2018 and 2020. These were major victories for Spain in handball.

At the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Gedeón and his team won bronze medals. This was another important medal for his collection.

In 2022, he won a silver medal at the European Championship. A year later, in 2023, he won another bronze medal at the World Championship.

Unfortunately, Gedeón missed the 2024 Olympics due to an injury he got just before the games.
