Gemma Rovira Ortega went to the 'Universidad Central de Barcelona'. She studied Spanish Philology there. This was before there were special schools for translation. She also learned English at the British Institute of Barcelona. She earned a special certificate from the University of Cambridge. This helped her become very good at English.

Since 1988, Gemma Rovira Ortega has worked only as an English-Spanish translator. She has worked with many different book publishers. Some of these include Anagrama, Minotauro, and Salamandra.
