History of the Elliot House
This house was built in 1824 by General Simon Elliot. He was an immigrant from Scotland. General Elliot was a brave soldier who fought in the American Revolutionary War.
General Elliot was also a successful businessman in the area. He owned mills and factories. His family was well-connected. His daughter married a famous merchant named Thomas Handasyd Perkins. Later, his granddaughter married into the important Cabot family from Boston.
