General Pico is a lively city in the northeast of La Pampa Province, Argentina. It sits about 143 meters (469 feet) above sea level. The city is part of the flat, humid plains region. It covers a large area of about 2,555 square kilometers (986 square miles).
General Pico was founded on November 11, 1905. Eduardo de Chapeaurouge started the city. It is named after General Eduardo Gustavo Pico. He was the governor of La Pampa Province for many years.
With over 56,000 people, General Pico is the second-largest city in La Pampa. Only the capital, Santa Rosa, is bigger. General Pico is also the main city of the Maracó area.

History and How It Started
The city's location was chosen because two important railroads crossed here. This made it a great spot for a new town. Eduardo Chapeaurouge officially founded General Pico on November 11, 1905. The city honors General Eduardo Gustavo Pico. He served as the governor of La Pampa Province from 1891 to 1899.
Economy and What They Do
The area around General Pico is mostly farmland. Farmers here raise cattle for meat. This meat is famous and sold all over the world. They also grow a lot of grain. This grain feeds much of Argentina.
General Pico also has many factories. It even has a special area called a Zona Franca. This is a customs-free zone. It means products can be brought in and sent out easily. This helps businesses trade with the rest of the country.
Sports and Fun
If you love basketball, General Pico has two teams! They play in the Argentinian League. These teams are Pico Football Club and Independiente de Pico. The city also has its own airport. This makes it easy to travel to and from General Pico.

General Pico has a humid subtropical climate. This means it has hot summers. The winters are cool and usually dry. In July, which is winter, the average high is about 15°C (59°F). Temperatures can often drop below freezing at night.
Summers are hot, especially in January. Daytime temperatures average around 31°C (88°F). Nights are cooler, averaging about 17°C (62°F). Spring and fall are changing seasons. Days are warm, and nights are cool. The weather can vary a lot during these times.
The city gets about 933 millimeters (37 inches) of rain each year. Most of this rain falls during the warmer months. The hottest temperature ever recorded was 44.0°C (111.2°F) in December 1971. The coldest was -11.2°C (11.8°F) in July 1988.
