Geoffrey Horne (born August 22, 1933) is an American actor. He is also a director and an acting coach at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.

He has appeared in many films and TV shows. Some of his well-known roles include The Bridge on the River Kwai and Bonjour Tristesse. He also acted in TV series like The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits.

Early Life and Acting Dreams

Geoffrey Horne was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on August 22, 1933. His parents were American. His father worked in the oil business.

When he was five, he moved to Havana with his mother. Later, at age 15, he went to a special school in New England. He later attended the University of California. It was there that he decided he wanted to become an actor.

Starting an Acting Career

Horne moved to New York City to start his acting career. He first appeared in a play that was not very successful. However, he soon began getting regular roles on television. One of his early TV roles was in an adaptation of Billy Budd. He also joined the Actors Studio, a famous place where actors learn and practice their craft.

In 1956, he got a small part in the movie The Strange One. All the actors in this film were from the Actors Studio. The movie was praised by critics. It was the first film for actors like Ben Gazzara and George Peppard.

The producer of The Strange One, Sam Spiegel, was impressed with Horne. In 1957, Spiegel cast him in a role for the famous movie The Bridge on the River Kwai.

Spiegel then offered Horne a special contract. It was a deal for one movie each year for five years. Horne was excited about this chance. He believed Spiegel was a talented person who would help his career.

After this, Otto Preminger chose Horne for a role in Bonjour Tristesse. Horne also made another film called Tempest in Yugoslavia.

He was almost cast in a big movie called Splendor in the Grass. However, the role eventually went to Warren Beatty.

In the 1980s, Horne continued to act in plays. He was in a New York production of Richard III in 1980. In 1981, he joined the cast of the musical Merrily We Roll Along. He was the oldest actor in that cast. In 1983, he played Dr. Bird in The Caine Mutiny Court Martial.
