George Anthony Acosta, born on January 19, 2000, is an American soccer player. He plays as an attacking midfielder for the team Cortuluá in the Categoría Primera B league. An attacking midfielder is a player who helps both in defense and offense, often creating chances for goals.
Playing Career
Club Teams
George Acosta grew up in Miami, Florida. He started his soccer journey playing for the Weston Academy. Later, he played for the North Carolina FC U23s team.
After showing his skills at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, George moved to Argentina. There, he joined the famous club Boca Juniors. He played for their U20 and reserve teams, gaining valuable experience.
In August 2019, Acosta signed with Austin Bold FC, a professional team in the USL Championship. He made his first professional appearance on September 1, 2019. He came into the game in the 82nd minute during a 3–0 win against Rio Grande Valley FC Toros.
Acosta then joined Inter Miami CF for their first season in Major League Soccer in 2020. After the 2021 season, Inter Miami decided not to extend his contract. However, he re-signed with Inter Miami in January 2022. His contract was again not extended after the 2022 season. In 2023, he joined Cortuluá.
International Teams
George Acosta has also played for his country. He represented the United States U17 team in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
During this important tournament, he played in two of the five matches for the American team. He even scored a goal in a game against the Colombia U17 team.
