Early Life and Family Background
George Armytage was born on Christmas Day in 1734. He was the second son of Sir Samuel Armytage, who was the 1st Baronet in their family. His mother was Anne Griffith. When his older brother, John, passed away in 1758, George inherited the title and became the 3rd Baronet.
A Career in Politics
Sir George Armytage was active in British politics. From 1761 to 1768, he served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the city of York. An MP is someone elected by people to represent them in the country's government. This means he helped make laws and decisions for Great Britain.
Later, from 1775 to 1776, he took on another important role. He was the High Sheriff of Yorkshire. A High Sheriff was a very old and respected position. They were responsible for keeping law and order in their county and helping with legal matters.
Later Life and Legacy
Sir George Armytage passed away when he was 48 years old, on January 21, 1783. He was buried in a place called Hartshead in Yorkshire.

On April 10, 1760, Sir George Armytage married Anna Maria Wentworth. Their wedding took place at St Marylebone Church in London. Anna Maria was the oldest daughter of Godfrey Wentworth.
Sir George and Anna Maria had a large family together. They had three daughters and three sons. Their oldest son, also named George, inherited the Baronet title after his father.
One of their other sons was Godfrey Wentworth Wentworth (1773–1834). He also became a Member of Parliament. In 1794, Godfrey married Amelia, who was the daughter of Walter Ramsden Beaumont Fawkes. Amelia was also the sister of Walter Fawkes.
