George Courtney Ball-Greene (born in December 1861, died in September 1939) was a talented tennis player from Ireland. He was especially good at doubles, reaching the semi-finals at the famous Wimbledon Championships twice. This happened in the men's doubles events in 1902 and 1903. George played tennis for many years, from 1890 to 1919, and won 10 singles titles during his career.

George Ball-Greene was born on November 25, 1870, in Killiney, which is in County Dublin, Ireland. He started his tennis career in 1890 at the North of Ireland Championships. In his very first tournament, he showed promise by reaching the semi-finals!

Playing at Wimbledon

George loved playing at the Wimbledon Championships, one of the biggest tennis tournaments in the world. He competed there nine times between 1894 and 1919.

  • Singles Success: In the men's singles, his best result was reaching the fourth round in 1908. He played against a Canadian player named Robert Powell in that match.
  • Doubles Success: George was even more successful in men's doubles. He made it to the semi-finals twice!
    • In 1902, he teamed up with Herbert Roper Barrett. They played well but lost to Clement Cazalet and George Hillyard.
    • In 1903, he partnered with William Wilberforce. They also reached the semi-finals but were beaten by the famous brothers, Laurence Doherty and Reginald Doherty.
