George W. Brown (October 24, 1885 – September 16, 1955) was a talented outfielder in the Negro leagues. He played for many years before the first Negro National League was formed. He also played in the league's first two seasons.

George W. Brown was an American baseball player. He was born in Aurora, Illinois, on October 24, 1885. George became known for his skills as an outfielder. This means he played in the outfield area of a baseball field.

Playing in the Negro Leagues

George Brown played baseball during a time when Black players were not allowed in Major League Baseball. Because of this, they played in their own leagues. These were called the Negro Leagues. These leagues had many amazing players.

George Brown's Teams

George Brown played for several teams during his career. He started playing professionally in 1909. His first team was the West Baden Sprudels. He played with them until 1915.

He also played for the Indianapolis ABCs in 1914 and 1916. In 1917, he joined the St. Louis Giants. From 1918 to 1920, he played for the Dayton Marcos.

In his final year, 1921, George played for three different teams. These were the Columbus Buckeyes, the Cleveland Tate Stars, and the Detroit Stars. His career ended in 1921 with the Detroit Stars.

The first Negro National League was founded in 1920. This was a very important step for Black baseball players. It helped organize professional baseball for them. George Brown played in this league during its first two seasons.
