His Ideas on Government
George Douglas was famous for his political writings. He believed that a government led by a king or queen could be very good. He wrote that this type of rule works best when it follows the laws of the land. He thought these laws should protect everyone.
In 1724, he wrote a book called The Great Blessing of a Monarchical Government. In this book, he explained his views. He also wrote that a government based on certain religious beliefs might not be good for the country. He also warned against the problems that happen when there is no strong government at all.
George Douglas also wrote articles against a newspaper called the Independent Whig. These writings showed his strong opinions on political matters of his time.
His Family Life
George Douglas married Catherine Lauder. She was the daughter of Dr. Robert Lauder. George and Catherine had three children together.
Their son, Charles Douglas, became the 5th Lord Mordington. Charles was a Jacobite. This means he supported the claim of the exiled Stuart family to the British throne.
They also had two daughters:

- Mary, who later became Baroness Mordington. Mary married William Weaver. He was an officer in the Royal Horse Guards. William Weaver fought in important battles like the battle of Dettingen and the battle of Fontenoy.
