George Elliott (born around 1636 – died 1668 in Tangier) was an English doctor. He worked as a surgeon for the Earl of Teviot's Regiment, a military group.

George Elliott was the son of Catherine Killigrew (1618–1689) and Richard Eliot (born around 1614 – died in the 1660s). Richard Eliot was the second son of Sir John Eliot, a well-known statesman.

We don't know much about George Elliott's early life. We know he married Katherine Maxwell in 1654. By May 1663, he was known as a 'Doctor' for the Earl of Teviot's Regiment. He later moved to Tangier Garrison in Morocco in May 1664. There, he worked as the 'Chirurgeon' (another word for surgeon) for the regiment. He lived at the Mole, which was a strong building near the water.

George Elliott's Family Life

On January 18, 1654, George Elliott married Katherine Maxwell in London. Katherine was born around 1638 and passed away in December 1709. Her father was Rev. William Maxwell.

George and Katherine had at least two daughters and one son:

  • Katherine Elliott was baptized on December 14, 1660, in London.
  • Margaret Elliott was baptized on May 3, 1663, in London. She married Richard Andrews, and later Richard Giles.
  • Roger Elliott was born around 1665. He became a notable military officer. He married Charlotte Elliot in London on March 4, 1712. Roger passed away on May 15, 1714.

George Elliott died in Tangier in 1668. After his death, his assistant, Robert Spotswood, took over his role as surgeon. Robert Spotswood later married George Elliott's widow, Katherine.
