George Gwynne (born around 1623 – died 1673) was a Welsh politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government, at different times between 1654 and 1660.

Who Was George Gwynne?

George Gwynne was born in Wales around the year 1623. His father was David Gwynne. His mother was Joan Morgan. She was the daughter of George Morgan. George Gwynne inherited a place called Pencoyd Castle in Monmouthshire. He got it from his uncle, Christopher Morgan.

Starting His Political Journey

In April 1654, George Gwynne was chosen to be a Member of Parliament. This means he was elected to represent the area of Radnorshire in the government. He served in what was called the First Protectorate Parliament.

He also worked as a Justice of the Peace for Radnorshire in 1655. A Justice of the Peace is a person who helps keep law and order in their local area. In 1656, he was elected again as a Member of Parliament for Radnorshire. This time, he served in the Second Protectorate Parliament.

Later Political Work

In 1660, George Gwynne was once again elected as a Member of Parliament for Radnorshire. He was part of the Convention Parliament. This was an important time in English history.

He was also considered for a special award called the Knight of the Royal Oak in 1660. Later, in 1666, he was listed as a Justice of the Peace for Breconshire. He continued to serve his community in this role.
