Sir George Aitken Clark Hutchison (born 6 July 1873 – died 22 December 1928) was a Scottish politician. He was a member of the Unionist Party and served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the area of Midlothian and Peebles Northern. He was an MP from 1922 to 1923, and again from 1924 until he passed away.

George Hutchison was born in a town called Renfrew in Scotland. His father, Rev. John B. A. Hutchinson, was a minister in a church.

In 1877, when George was four years old, his family moved to Leith. This town is on the east coast of Scotland. His father became a minister at a church there called Bonnington United Free Church.

His Education and Early Career

George went to school at Edinburgh Academy. After that, he studied at the University of Edinburgh. He became a lawyer, which is called being "called to the Scottish bar," in 1896.

He first tried to become a Member of Parliament in 1910. He ran in the Argyll area. It was a very close election, and he lost by only 257 votes.

In 1906, George sold his house, Afton Lodge. This land was later used to build schools. He then moved to a large house in Edinburgh at 34 Drumsheugh Gardens.

His Time as an MP

George Hutchison did not run for Parliament again until 1922. In the 1922 election, he won the seat for Midlothian and Peebles Northern. The previous MP from his party had retired.

However, he lost his seat in the 1923 election. He was defeated by Andrew Clarke, a candidate from the Labour Party. But George Hutchison ran again in the 1924 election and won back his seat.

In 1928, he was given the title of "Knight." This was to recognize his hard work in politics and for the public. Because of his health, he decided not to run in the next election in 1929.

George Hutchison passed away on 22 December 1928 in Edinburgh. He was 55 years old. He is buried in Dean Cemetery in Edinburgh.

His Family

George Hutchison was married to Peggie Blair. They had a son named Ronald Blair Clark Hutchison. Ronald became a Commander in the Royal Navy.

George and Peggie also had two other sons, Ian Clark Hutchison and Michael Clark Hutchison. Both of them also became Members of Parliament, following in their father's footsteps.
