George Leslie, 2nd Earl of Rothes was an important Scottish nobleman who lived a long time ago. He was known as the Earl of Rothes. He was also the grandson of another important person, George Leslie, who was the 1st Earl of Rothes.
Becoming an Earl
George Leslie officially became the Earl of Rothes on May 25, 1492. This meant he took control of his family's lands and titles. It was a big responsibility in those times.
Land and Titles
In 1509, something important happened with George's lands. The King of Scotland at the time, James IV of Scotland, took back some of the Leslie family's land titles. This was because George had tried to sell some of the land without the King's permission. In those days, the King owned all the land. He would let noble families use it, but they couldn't sell it without his approval. One of the main titles taken back was for the Barony of Ballinbreich Castle.
Family Life
George Leslie married a woman named Janet Douglas. She was the daughter of George Douglas, 4th Earl of Angus. They got married sometime between 1484 and 1488. Janet was about ten years older than George. They did not have any children together.
His Legacy
George Leslie passed away before March 1513. Since he didn't have any children, his younger brother became the next Earl. His brother, William, took over as the 3rd Earl of Rothes.
