Later, he earned a law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1955. After becoming a lawyer, he practiced law in Harlem, a neighborhood in New York City.
His Time in Politics
George W. Miller served in the New York State Assembly from 1971 to 1980. The Assembly is a group of elected officials who make laws for New York State. During his time there, he became the Majority Whip. This important role means he helped make sure members of his political party voted together on important issues.
In 1980, he tried to be re-elected for his party, but he lost in the primary election to Geraldine L. Daniels. A primary election is when members of a political party choose their candidate. Miller then ran in the main election as a Republican, but he was again defeated by Daniels.
