The Westinghouse Electric Corporation was an American company that made many different things. It started on January 8, 1886, as the Westinghouse Electric Company. Later, its name changed to Westinghouse Electric Corporation. This company played a big part in bringing electricity to homes and businesses all over the United States.
Westinghouse was involved in many types of products and services. They were known for being the first to do many things. For example, they made the first jet engine in the United States. They also built the first nuclear power plant. Westinghouse even developed the first U.S. radar station, which was used at Pearl Harbor. In the late 1980s, some difficult business decisions led to the company's decline. After selling most of its factories, Westinghouse Electric changed its name. It took the name of one of its subsidiaries, CBS, which it had bought in 1995.
