Bravery at Bourlon Wood
George Clare showed incredible bravery when he was 28 years old. This happened on November 28 and 29, 1917, during a big battle called the Battle of Cambrai in France. Specifically, his brave actions took place at a place called Bourlon Wood.
During this battle, Private Clare was killed while fighting. Even though he lost his life, his actions were so courageous that he was awarded the Victoria Cross. This medal honors his amazing bravery and sacrifice for his country.
