His Football Journey
Georgios Mitsibonas was born in 1962 in a village called Tsaritsani. This village is in the Larissa region of Greece.
Starting His Career
He began playing football as a centre forward for a team called Ikonomos Tsaritsanis. In 1981, he joined AEL, a bigger club. He played as a forward for one year there.
Becoming a Top Defender
In 1982, AEL's coach saw his potential and moved him to play as a sweeper, which is a type of defender. This change was a great success for Mitsibonas. He became a very strong defender.
With AEL, he helped the team win some big titles:
- The Greek Football Cup in 1985.
- The Greek football Championship in 1988.
Winning the championship in 1988 was a huge deal. AEL was the first, and still the only, team not from Athens or Thessaloniki to win this championship. This made Mitsibonas a legend for AEL fans.
Moving to Other Clubs
In 1989, Mitsibonas moved to PAOK. After three years, he joined Olympiacos, another major Greek team. With Olympiacos, he won another Greek Football Cup.
In 1994, he returned to AEL. However, the team was not as strong as before. Many good players had left. In 1996, AEL was moved down to a lower division. Mitsibonas then played for AE Tyrnavos, a team in the Greek Third Division.
