Geraint Lloyd Owen's Early Life and Education
Geraint Lloyd Owen was born in a farmhouse. This farm was located between the villages of Llandderfel and Sarnau in Meirionnydd, Wales. Later, his family moved to his mother's home in Sarnau village.
He went to the local school in Sarnau. After that, he attended Ysgol Tŷ-tan-domen in Bala. He then trained to become a secondary-school teacher. He studied at Heath College in Cardiff. After finishing his training, he taught in Machynlleth.
A Champion Poet: Winning Eisteddfod Prizes
Geraint Lloyd Owen is a very talented poet. He won many prizes at local eisteddfodau. An eisteddfod is a Welsh festival of literature, music, and performance. He won chairs at many places. These included Pontrhydfendigaid, Lampeter, and Gŵyl Fawr Aberteifi (Cardigan). He also won at Powys and the Urdd Eisteddfod.
In 2011, he achieved a major honor. He won the Crown at The National Eisteddfod of Wales. This Eisteddfod was held in the Wrecsam and District area that year. Winning the Crown is a very big deal for Welsh poets.
Leading the Gorsedd as Archdruid
Geraint Lloyd Owen became the Archdruid of the Gorsedd. The Gorsedd is a special group of poets, writers, musicians, and artists. They play a big part in the National Eisteddfod. He was chosen for this role in July 2015.
His time as Archdruid officially began in 2016. He served in this important position for three years. His term lasted from 2016 until 2019. As Archdruid, he was the leader of the Gorsedd. He led many important ceremonies at the National Eisteddfod.
After his three-year term, Myrddin ap Dafydd took over as the new Archdruid.
