About Gerald Nicholas Dino
Gerald Nicholas Dino was born in 1940 in Binghamton, New York. He decided to dedicate his life to the church.
Becoming a Priest and Bishop
On March 21, 1965, he became a priest for the Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Passaic. This means he was officially allowed to perform religious ceremonies and lead a church community.
Later, on December 6, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI chose him to become a bishop. The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church. On March 27, 2008, Gerald Dino was officially made a bishop in a special ceremony called a consecration.
Moving to Phoenix
In February 2010, Bishop Dino asked Pope Benedict XVI to move the main office of his eparchy. It was moved from Van Nuys, California, to Phoenix, Arizona. This meant the eparchy was then known as the Eparchy of Phoenix.
Retirement and Passing
When Bishop Dino turned 75, he offered his resignation to Pope Francis. This is a common practice for bishops when they reach that age. Pope Francis accepted his resignation in May 2016.
After Bishop Dino retired, John Stephen Pazak was chosen to take his place as the new bishop. Gerald Nicholas Dino passed away on November 14, 2020, at the age of 80.
