Geraldine Georgiana Mary Hervey, Marchioness of Bristol (1843–1927), was an important figure in British society. She was the daughter of Major-General George Anson, a high-ranking British soldier who became the Commander-in-Chief in India in 1856. Geraldine was known for her interesting hobbies and her family connections.

Family and Marriage

On March 4, 1862, Geraldine married Frederick Hervey, Lord Jermyn. Their wedding took place at St. George's Church in Hanover Square, London. Frederick was the son and heir of the 2nd Marquess of Bristol.

Geraldine and Frederick had two daughters:

  • Lady Katherine Adine Geraldine, who later became Mrs. Drummond (died November 1, 1948).
  • Lady Alice Adeliza (died August 27, 1962), who married Hylton Jolliffe, 3rd Baron Hylton.

A Unique Hobby

While living at Ickworth House, the family home, Geraldine developed a special interest. She loved collecting fans that were beautifully decorated. Her passion for these artistic fans was so well-known that she received a special honour. She was given the freedom of the Worshipful Company of Fanmakers, a very old and respected group of fan makers.

Later Life and Passing

After her husband, the Marquess, passed away in 1905, Geraldine moved to a house in London. She lived there with her sister-in-law, Mary Hervey, who was unmarried.

Lady Bristol died on January 25, 1927. She was at St George's Hospital near Hyde Park Corner in London. Her death followed an accident in Hyde Park where she was knocked down by a motor car. Two days later, she was buried at Ickworth House, the family's estate.
