Giancarlo Giammetti (born 5 February 1942) is an Italian businessman. He is famous for working closely with Valentino Garavani. Together, they started the well-known Valentino fashion company. Giancarlo Giammetti is currently the Honour President of Valentino. In 2006, he was recognized for his style and added to the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame.

Early Life and Education
Giancarlo Giammetti was born in Rome, Italy, in 1942. He went to a special high school called liceo classico at Collegio San Gabriele in Rome. After that, he studied architecture at a local university.
Starting the Valentino Fashion House
Giancarlo Giammetti met Valentino Garavani in 1960. At that time, Giancarlo was 18 years old, and Valentino was 28. They quickly became partners and decided to create their own fashion company. This company, named Valentino, started in the same year, 1960.
Growing the Valentino Brand
In 1989, Giancarlo and Valentino opened the Valentino Academy. This was a special place near Valentino's design studio in Rome. It was used for cultural events and art exhibitions. The Valentino brand grew very popular around the world.
Changes in Ownership
Over the years, the Valentino company changed owners a few times. In 1998, it was sold to an Italian company called Holding di Partecipazioni (HdP). Later, in 2002, it was sold again to the Marzotto group. Giancarlo Giammetti eventually left the Valentino group in 2007. This happened after a British company called Permira bought the brand. Giancarlo felt the company had become very large and corporate, and it was time for him to move on.

Sharing His Story
In 2013, a book called Private: Giancarlo Giammetti was published by Assouline Publishing. This book was a collection of photos from Giancarlo's personal life. He had collected and organized about 57,000 pictures over many years. To celebrate the book's release, a party was held in Milan. Many famous people attended, including Anna Wintour, Georgia May Jagger, Joan Smalls, and Olivia Palermo.
The Valentino Garavani Foundation
In 2017, Giancarlo Giammetti and Valentino Garavani created the Valentino Garavani Foundation. This foundation was set up to manage Valentino's fashion archives. It also helps with their charity work.
Art Collection
Giancarlo Giammetti is also known for his interest in art. In 2021, he decided to sell a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat called In this case (1983). He had bought this painting in 2007 from the Gagosian Gallery. He put it up for sale at Christie's.
