Giancarlo Giammetti (born on February 5, 1942) is an Italian businessman. He is well-known for his close work with Valentino Garavani. Together, they started the famous Valentino fashion house. Today, he is the Honour President of Valentino. In 2006, he was added to the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame. This means he was recognized for his great sense of style.

Early Life and Starting Valentino

Giancarlo Giammetti was born in Rome, Italy, in 1942. He went to school at Collegio San Gabriele in Rome. Later, he studied architecture at a local university.

In 1960, Giancarlo met Valentino Garavani. Giancarlo was 18 years old and Valentino was 28. That same year, they decided to create their own fashion company. This company became the world-famous Valentino fashion house.

Growing the Fashion Empire

Giancarlo Giammetti played a big part in building the Valentino brand. He helped manage the business side of the company. This allowed Valentino Garavani to focus on designing beautiful clothes.

In 1989, Giancarlo and Valentino opened the Valentino Academy. This was a special place in Rome for art and cultural shows. It was located right next to Valentino's design studio.

Over the years, the Valentino brand grew very large. In 1998, the company was sold to a big Italian group. Later, in 2002, it was sold again to another group. Giancarlo Giammetti left the Valentino group in 2007. By then, the company had become a huge business. He felt it was time for him to move on.

A Book of Memories

In 2013, a book called Private: Giancarlo Giammetti was published. This book was a collection of photos from Giancarlo's personal life. He had collected over 57,000 pictures through the years!

To celebrate the book's release, a party was held in Milan. Many famous people attended, including Anna Wintour, a well-known fashion editor.

Later Work and Philanthropy

In 2017, Giancarlo and Valentino Garavani started the Valentino Garavani Foundation. This foundation works to keep Valentino's fashion history alive. It also helps with charity projects.

Giancarlo Giammetti also has a passion for art. In 2021, he sold a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat called In any case. He had bought this painting in 2007.
