Harbison Crossroads is a small community in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. It's not a city, but a place where people live and work. It is located about 10 miles northeast of a bigger city called Knoxville. Sometimes, people also call this area Gibbs.

A Look Back in Time

Harbison Crossroads has an interesting history! A long time ago, in the 1790s, a brave soldier from the American Revolutionary War named James Harbison settled here. He even ran a special gate called a toll gate where people had to pay a small fee to pass. This gate was at a busy intersection of two roads: Emory Road and Tazewell Pike.

Later, another person named Nicholas Gibbs moved to the area. He lived in a cozy log cabin. Over time, people started calling the area "Gibbs" too, after him. This is why the place has two names, which can sometimes be a bit confusing! For example, state maps might say Harbison Crossroads, but the local schools are all named Gibbs.

Where is Harbison Crossroads?

Today, Harbison Crossroads is mainly found where two roads meet. These roads are State Route 131 and State Route 331. Locally, people know them as East Emory Road and Tazewell Pike.

What You'll Find Here

Even though it's a small community, Harbison Crossroads has many useful places. You can find several gas stations, different restaurants, and a grocery store. There's also a Rural/Metro Fire Station, which helps keep the community safe.

Learning in Gibbs

The schools in this area are all named after Nicholas Gibbs. You'll find Gibbs High School, Gibbs Middle School, and Gibbs Elementary School. They are all located on Tazewell Pike, just north of the main crossroads.
