Gid, Arkansas facts for kids
Gid is a small place located in Izard County, Arkansas, in the United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and people living together, but it doesn't have its own local government, like a mayor or city council, that a city or town would have. Instead, the county government helps manage services for the people living there.
How Gid Got Its Name
The community of Gid has a very interesting and unique story behind its name. It was named after a person called Gid Bruce. The year was 1888, and people in the area wanted to set up a post office. A post office is a very important place where people can send and receive mail, which was even more crucial for communication in the past.
However, the people who were trying to get the post office started, often called "promoters," couldn't agree on a name for their new community. After much discussion, they came up with a fun and unusual idea. They decided to name the community after the very next person who walked into the room where they were meeting. As fate would have it, the next person to walk in was Gid Bruce, and that's how the community officially became known as Gid!
