Gidney & Cloyd facts for kids
Gidney and Cloyd are funny characters from the old American cartoon show The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. They first appeared in a show called Rocky and His Friends. Their names, Gidney and Cloyd, were chosen because the show's creator, Jay Ward, thought "Sidney" and "Floyd" were very boring names.

Who Are Gidney and Cloyd?
Gidney and Cloyd are known as "Moon Men." They live on Earth's Moon. They look a lot like humans but are about half the size of an average adult.
What Do They Look Like?
The show often calls them "green men." But their color actually changes in different scenes. Sometimes they are orange, tan, or blue. Their skin has black spots or circles. They have round, pear-shaped bodies. Their heads are shaped like onions and are bald, except for a small tuft of hair on top. They don't have noses, so Cloyd says they can't smell anything. They also don't have visible ears.
Cloyd often has a big, toothy smile. Gidney's mouth is hidden by a shaggy mustache. Cloyd wears a belt with a special "scrootch gun." This gun can make people stop moving for a while. Other than that, they don't wear clothes.
Their Special Powers
Both Gidney and Cloyd can disappear and reappear whenever they want! Sometimes, when they vanish, their eyes or Cloyd's mouth might still be seen, like the Cheshire cat's smile. But anything they carry, like Cloyd's scrootch gun, stays visible even when they are completely gone.
Gidney and Cloyd's Adventures
The Moon Men first appeared in the Rocky and Bullwinkle story called Jet Fuel Formula. This was in 1959-1960.
Coming to Earth
In this story, Gidney and Cloyd come to Earth. They want to stop too many tourists from visiting the Moon. But when they get to Earth, they become famous! They enjoy being celebrities for a while. But soon, they get tired of all the attention. Cloyd even says, "It's all so wonderful we can't STAND it anymore!"
Getting Home
With help from Rocky and Bullwinkle, they finally find a way to go back home to the Moon. Gidney and Cloyd also return in later stories. They appear in Metal-Munching Mice and Missouri Mish Mash.
