The Story of Nassali
The book tells the story of a young girl named Nassali. She lives in a village and dreams of going to school. Nassali wants to learn to read and write, just like her older brother.
However, Nassali has many responsibilities at home. Since her mother passed away, Nassali must take care of her younger brothers and sisters. She also has to manage the household chores. Because of all these duties, Nassali has no time for books or learning.
One morning, Nassali wakes up to a wonderful surprise. All her chores have been finished! This day becomes her very first "gift day." From then on, once a week, her brother gives Nassali the special gift of time. This allows her to follow her dream of getting an education. It is exactly what her mother would have wanted for her.

What is "Because I Am a Girl"?
"Because I Am a Girl" is a social movement. Its goal is to help girls and women around the world. They work to "unleash the power of girls and women." This means helping girls in developing countries have a brighter future. They do this by supporting education and women's rights.
Impact of the Book
When Gift Days was first launched in November 2012, it raised a lot of money. Enough funds were collected to send 10 girls to school in Uganda for a whole year! The book also includes information about other groups that help girls like Nassali.
