Kari-Lynn Winters (born in 1969) is a Canadian author who writes books for children. She is also a playwright, drama teacher, and a professor who teaches about literacy. She taught at the University of British Columbia from 2004 to 2009. In 2010, she became a professor at Brock University in Ontario. She became a full professor in 2021.

Kari-Lynn Winters' Early Life and Education
Kari-Lynn Winters was born in St. Thomas, Ontario. She earned a teaching degree from the University of Toronto. This degree focused on teaching children aged 3 to 13. She also studied at the National Theatre School of Canada. There, she learned about technical theatre.
Winters' master's thesis was about using art to help students read better. It was chosen as the best Master's Thesis in Literacy in Canada in 2005. She earned her PhD from the University of British Columbia in 2009. Her PhD work explored how play, literature, and drama help with writing. She also wrote plays and performed with theatre groups in Vancouver. These groups helped teach children about reading.
Kari-Lynn Winters' Career as an Author and Educator
Kari-Lynn Winters has written many children's books. She has also written non-fiction articles for kids. She has won several awards for her teaching. She also received the St. Catharines Arts Awards "Emerging Artist Award" in 2016. In 2020, she won the St. Catharines Arts Educator Award.
Winters shares that she didn't always think of herself as a writer. When she was in elementary school, writing was often a struggle. Her work now explores how she learned to love storytelling. She also looks for ways to help her own students enjoy writing.

Helping Others Through Education
From 2010 to 2012, Winters became more involved in educational activism. She helped organize a yearly "Arts Matters" conference. She also raised money to support girls' education in Africa.
The money from her book Gift Days helps the charity Because I am a Girl. This group works to empower girls and women in developing countries. They do this through education and by supporting women's rights. At the book's launch in 2012, enough money was raised to send 10 girls to school in Uganda for a year.
Winters continued to support arts research during the Covid pandemic. She even created a play and film about the role of art during a global pandemic. By 2020, she had twenty-nine books published or ready to be published.
