Story of the Book

The story of On My Walk follows mothers and their young children. They go for a walk through the streets and parks of Vancouver, Canada. As they walk, they hear many different animal sounds.

The book uses a special writing style. It has a sing-song rhythm that is fun to read aloud. It also uses many onomatopoeia words. Onomatopoeia are words that sound like what they describe. For example, "buzz" for a bee or "woof" for a dog. The walk ends with the characters getting caught in a summer rainstorm on a Kitsilano beach.

From Book to Stage

In 2016, On My Walk was turned into a play. This is called a stage adaptation. Kari-Lynn Winters, the author, wrote the play's script with Marcie Nestman.

The play was asked for by Carousel Theatre for Young People. This theater group is in Vancouver, British Columbia. The play first opened in June 2016. It brought the beloved book to life on stage for audiences.
