Luigino Celestino di Agostino (born December 17, 1967), known as Gigi D'Agostino, is a famous Italian DJ and music producer. He started his career in 1986, playing Italo disco music. Some of his biggest hit songs include "Bla Bla Bla," "Another Way," "The Riddle," "La Passion," "Super," and "L'Amour Toujours." These songs were very popular around 1999 and 2000. A part of "L'Amour Toujours" was also used in the popular 2018 song "In My Mind."

Early Life and Music Start

Gigi D'Agostino was born in Turin, Italy, on December 17, 1967. His parents were from Salerno. He grew up spending time in both Turin and Brescia.

When he was a kid, Gigi dreamed of being a part of the disco music world. He first worked as a stonemason and a fitter. Then, he started his music journey by organizing parties in clubs. His first time playing as a DJ was at a club near Turin called "Woodstock." He also played at other clubs in Italy for several years. From 1993 to 1998, he was a regular DJ at a famous Italian disco called Ultimo Impero.

Music Career Highlights

The 1990s: Early Success

Gigi D'Agostino's first music release was called Noise Maker Theme. This song helped start the Noise Maker record label. He worked with other artists and producers, like Daniele Gas.

As a DJ, Gigi D'Agostino became known for his "Mediterranean Progressive Dance" style. This music used simple sounds with Latin and Mediterranean tunes. When he produced music, he used the name "Gigi Dag." He was good at turning songs meant for clubs into big hits for everyone.

After releasing successful songs like "Sweetly," he joined the Media Records team. His single "FLY" came out in 1996 and became a top seller in Italy. This was followed by another popular song, "Gigi's Violin."

He also worked with his friend Mauro Picotto on the song "Angel's Symphony." His first big album was simply called Gigi D'Agostino. It had 19 songs and sold over 60,000 copies.

As he became more famous, Gigi D'Agostino's music style changed. It became more melodic, mixing house and progressive sounds. This new style was known as Italo dance.

In 1997, he released the song "Gin Lemon." More hits followed, like "Your Love (Elisir)" (1998) and "Cuba Libre" (1998). In 1999, his song "Bla Bla Bla" became a huge hit in Europe. He said he wrote "Bla Bla Bla" thinking of "all the people who talk and talk without saying anything!"

He also released an album called Eurodance Compilation, which included new songs. This album earned him a platinum award and he was named "Best Producer in 1999" at the Italian Dance Awards. Later that year, he released another hit song, "Another Way."

In 1999, his album L'Amour Toujours came out. It had 23 songs on two CDs. The title song, "L'Amour Toujours," became a top 10 hit in Italy and earned him another platinum award.

The 2000s: Continued Success

In 2000, Gigi D'Agostino made a new version of the song "The Riddle" by Nik Kershaw. This version sold over 1 million copies in Germany and 200,000 in France. He also released the albums Tecno Fes and Tecno Fes - EP, Vol. 2.

In 2001, he released L'Amour Toujours EP, which included new versions of "L'amour Toujours." He also released "Un Giorno Credi" with Edoardo Bennato. This song became very popular in Italy and around the world. He won "Best DJ-Producer of the Year" at the "Red Bull Awards" in Italy.

Also in 2001, he released the hit song "Super" with Albertino. This song won him awards like "Best Dance Producer" at the PIM (Italian Music Award). In December, he released Il Grande Viaggio, a collection of his favorite songs. He won "Best Dance Producer" again at the Italian Dance Awards.

In 2003, he released the song "Ripassa" on the EP Underconstruction 1: Silence. This song was important because it helped shape a new music style called Lento Violento.

In 2004, his "Euro Dance" collection sold 120,000 copies in just a few weeks, earning a Platinum award. In December 2004, Gigi D'Agostino released his fourth studio album, L'Amour Toujours II.

Gigi D'Agostino has played in many famous clubs across Europe. These include clubs in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, and England. In 1996, he played at the Ministry of Sound in London.

In 2006, he started his own new record label called "Noisemaker Hard." This was to release a different style of music from his older "Noisemaker" label.

In 2007, D'Agostino released Lento Violento ...e altre storie. This collection had two CDs with 35 new Lento Violento songs. Popular songs from this album include "Cammino" and "Vorrei Fare una Canzone."

He later released another collection called La musica che pesta under the name "Lento Violento Man." This had 38 songs.

From 2005 to January 2010, he had radio shows on Italian radio called "Il Cammino di Gigi D'Agostino" and "Quello che mi piace." In these shows, he played DJ sets with new remixes of his songs and music by other artists.

The 2010s: New Music and Global Reach

In August 2011, he released a digital song called Stay With Me.

In May 2017, news reports shared that his music was very popular in a remote Canadian community called Arviat. People there enjoyed his "slicing, bass-heavy beats" which reminded them of traditional Inuit drum-dancing music.

In 2018, Gigi D'Agostino teamed up with Dynoro to release "In My Mind." This song became a huge international hit.

Gigi D'Agostino continues to release music and perform.

Since his 1999 album Bla Bla Bla, many of Gigi D'Agostino's album covers have featured a special logo. This logo is the Chinese character [舞], which is pronounced "wu" and means "dance." He has also used Japanese characters for his name on some album covers.
