Gilda Ruta (born October 13, 1853 – died October 26, 1932) was a very talented Italian musician. She was a skilled pianist, a music teacher, and a composer who wrote many pieces of music.

Early Life and Musical Training

Gilda Ruta was born in Naples, Italy. Her father, Michele Ruta, was also a composer, and her mother, Emilia Sutton, was an English singer. Growing up, Gilda was surrounded by music!

She learned music from her father and from a famous opera composer named Saverio Mercadante. With such great teachers, Gilda became an amazing pianist.

A Talented Performer

Gilda Ruta's talent was recognized by important people. She even performed for Queen Margherita of Italy at the Constanzi Theater in Rome. Today, this theater is known as the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. She also won a gold medal at an important international exhibition in Florence, showing how highly her music was valued.

Life in America and Composing

After facing a personal challenge at age 27, Gilda Ruta began composing her own music. She was a strong and independent woman who used her musical gifts to create new works.

Later, she moved to New York City in the United States. There, she taught private piano lessons in an area called Greenwich Village. Gilda Ruta passed away in Manhattan when she was 79 years old.

Musical Creations

Gilda Ruta was a very productive composer. She created more than 125 pieces for piano and orchestra. She also wrote music for operas, which are plays where the story is sung.
