How It All Began

In its early years, the Gilliam Company made a candy bar called "Kentucky Blue Grass." It was a nickel candy bar, which was a common price back then.

Growing with New Treats

During the 1930s, the company grew bigger. They added new candy lines like Bacon Slice, Tummy Full, and Cello Sally.

In more recent times, after James Lacy bought the company from Bruce Pope, Gilliam Candy Company added even more popular candies. These included Kits, which are small square taffy candy pieces. Kits came in flavors like banana, peanut butter, chocolate, and strawberry.

They also added BB Bats, which are taffy lollipops. These lollipops came in strawberry, chocolate, banana, and molasses peanut flavors. Another favorite was Slo Pokes, which are tasty caramel candies on a stick. Gilliam also started making Sophie Mae Candies, a brand that has been around since 1884! Later, these popular candy brands were licensed to other companies to produce.
