Gilpin is a small place in Casey County, Kentucky, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
A Bit of History
The story of Gilpin begins in 1881. Back then, this community had a post office and was known by a different name: Shackelford.
A few years later, in 1887, the person in charge of the post office was named William Gilpin. He decided to rename the community after his own family. That's how Shackelford became Gilpin, the name it still uses today.
