Gilpin, Richmond, Virginia facts for kids
Gilpin is a small neighborhood located in Richmond, Virginia. It's part of the city's North Side area.
Originally, Gilpin was part of a historic Black neighborhood called Jackson Ward. In the mid-20th century, the northern part of Jackson Ward was redeveloped. This included building public housing, with a major project named "Gilpin Court." Around the same time, new highways were built around and through central Richmond. These highways essentially cut off Gilpin Court and the rest of the neighborhood from the main part of Jackson Ward.

This last one is a very old and important burial ground that was once forgotten.
The main office for the Richmond Department of Redevelopment and Housing is also in Gilpin. This department helps manage housing and community development in the city. The Richmond Alternative School is located here too.
