Ginés de Boluda facts for kids
Ginés de Boluda (born in Hellín in 1545 – died around 1606) was a talented Spanish musician and composer. He wrote music for churches.
He became a maestro de capilla (music director) at the Cathedral of Cádiz by 1578. Later that year, he moved to the Cuenca Cathedral for the same job. In 1581, he became the music director at the important Cathedral of Toledo, where he stayed for 13 years. After 1593, he stopped working as a professional musician. He was last known to be in Seville in 1604.
Musical Contributions
Ginés de Boluda lived during a special time for Spanish church music. This period is often called the "Golden Age." He wrote many pieces for the Toledo Cathedral. All the music we still have from him was written during his time there.
He also helped the cathedral get many important music books by other Spanish composers. Boluda's surviving works are all for church services, known as liturgy. He was especially known for writing music for Vespers, which are evening church services. His music often included settings of psalms and the Magnificat.
