Giornale per i bambini facts for kids

The Giornale per i bambini (which means Newspaper for Children in Italian) was a popular weekly magazine. It was published in Italy during the 1880s. This magazine was created especially for young readers.
It was first published by Tipografia dei Fratelli Bencini. Later, Tipografia Bodoniana took over its publication.
How the Magazine Started
The Giornale per i bambini first appeared on July 7, 1881. It began as a special section inside another newspaper called Fanfulla della domenica.
Later that same year, it became its own independent magazine. Ferdinando Martini founded the magazine. He was also its first editor. The magazine was aimed at children, especially those aged 6 to 12.
The Story of Pinocchio
One of the most exciting things about the Giornale per i bambini was the story of Pinocchio. The very first issue in July 1881 featured the start of a new story. It was called La storia di un burattino (The Story of a Puppet).
This story was written by Carlo Collodi. Over the next few months, more parts of the story were published. After a short break, the story continued in February 1882. It was then called The Adventures of Pinocchio. The famous story finished in January 1883.
Editors and Gifts
After Ferdinando Martini, Carlo Collodi became the official editor. He held this role from 1883 to 1885. However, much of the editing work was done by Emma Perodi. She was an author and journalist. Emma Perodi was officially recognized for her work in 1887.
In December 1883, subscribers to the magazine received a special gift. It was an Italian version of a painting book called The "Little Folks" Painting Book.
The Magazine's End
The last issue of the Giornale per i bambini was published on June 26, 1889. After this, the magazine and its team joined another publication. They became part of the Giornale dei fanciulli.
