Emma Perodi (born January 31, 1850, died March 5, 1918) was a talented Italian writer and journalist. She is most famous for her wonderful books written especially for children.

Emma Perodi's Life Story
Early Life and Education
Emma Perodi was born on January 31, 1850, in Cerreto Guidi, Italy. For a long time, people weren't sure exactly where she was born. But in the 1980s, a special paper called a baptismal certificate showed her birthplace. Her father, Federigo, was an engineer. Her mother, Adelaide Morelli Adimari, came from a noble family. Emma received a very good education. She was also allowed to travel freely across Italy and Europe.
Working as a Writer
Emma Perodi's writing career mostly grew in Florence. From 1881, she started working for the Children's Journal (Giornale per i bambini). This newspaper was published in Rome. By 1887, she became the director of the journal. Ferdinando Martini was the person who started the journal and was its first director.
Famous Works and Translations
Her most famous work is Grandma's Stories (Le novelle della nonnaCasentino. The stories were published in parts between 1892 and 1893. Even though they were made for children, some stories have exciting, mysterious parts. These parts can be enjoyed by adults too.
). This is a collection of amazing stories. They are set in a place calledEmma Perodi also translated books from other languages into Italian. One important translation was the first Italian version of Elective Affinities. This book was written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. She worked on this translation with Arnaldo de Mohr.
Later Life and Legacy
Emma Perodi passed away from pneumonia on March 5, 1918. She died in Palermo, Italy. She had spent more than twenty years working there for a publishing company called Salvatore Biondo.
In July 2018, a park in Casentino was named after her. This was a way to honor her and her wonderful stories.
