Giovanni Ambrogio Figino facts for kids
Giovanni Ambrogio Figino (born between 1548 and 1551 – died October 11, 1608) was a talented Italian Renaissance painter from the city of Milan. He was known for his detailed drawings and impressive portraits.
About Giovanni Ambrogio Figino
Giovanni Ambrogio Figino was an important artist from the Lombard school of painting. This was a special style of art that developed in the Lombardy region of Italy. He learned his skills from a famous painter named Gian Paolo Lomazzo.
Figino was especially good at drawing, and he was also a very skilled portrait painter. A portrait is a painting of a person. One of his most famous portraits is of a military leader called Field Marshal Lucio Foppa.
In 2001, one of his paintings, called Portrait of Giovanni Angelo, was sold at an auction for a lot of money. This showed how much people valued his artwork.
Figino also helped paint large organ shutters for the Cathedral of Milan. These were big panels that covered the church organ. He worked with other artists, Camillo Procaccini and Giuseppe Meda, on these paintings, which showed scenes like the Passage of the Red Sea and the Ascension of Christ.
You can find another of his paintings, Saint Ambrose expelling the Arians, in the Pinacoteca del Castello Sforzesco in Milan. He also painted a unique picture of a dish of peaches. This was special because paintings of everyday objects, called still lifes, were not very common in Italian art at that time.
Other works by Figino include an Immaculate Conception for a church called Sant'Antonio, and a painting of the Virgin with child, saints, and donors, which is now in the Brera Gallery.
