Giulia Di Nunno (born in 1973) is a mathematician from Italy. Early Studies and Degrees

Giulia Di Nunno started her math journey at the University of Milan in Italy. In 1998, she earned her first university degree in mathematics. During this time, she studied special math functions that involve chance, working with a researcher named Yurii Rozanov.

After that, she went to the University of Pavia to continue her studies. She worked towards her Ph.D., which is a very advanced university degree. She finished her Ph.D. in 2003. Her special research paper for her Ph.D. was about how to use math to understand and manage risks in finance.

Teaching and Research Career

In 2003, Giulia Di Nunno joined the University of Oslo as a professor. This means she teaches math to university students and also does her own math research. In 2009, she also started working with the Norwegian School of Economics.

Helping Math Grow Around the World

Giulia Di Nunno is very active in helping math education spread, especially in Africa. She leads a special group called the Committee for Developing Countries for the European Mathematical Society.

She works hard to encourage young math researchers to visit Africa. Her goal is to help create "Emerging Regional Centres of Excellence" there. These centers are places where top-level math research and education can happen.

Because of her important work, the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics gave her the Su Buchin Prize in 2019.
