Giuliana Davidoff facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Giuliana P. Davidoff is an American mathematician. This means she is a scientist who studies numbers and math. She is really good at understanding number theory. This is a part of math that looks at whole numbers and their properties. She also studies something called expander graphs. These are special kinds of networks. Ms. Davidoff is a professor at Mount Holyoke College. She also leads the math and statistics department there.

Her Journey in Math

Giuliana Davidoff went to Rollins College for her first degree. Later, she earned her Ph.D. in 1984 from New York University. A Ph.D. is a very high degree you can get in a subject. Her main teacher for this was Peter Sarnak. For her Ph.D., she wrote a big paper called Statistical Properties of Certain Exponential Sums. This paper was about special math problems.

Books She Helped Write

Giuliana Davidoff has also helped write several math books. These books help others learn about math.

  • Elementary Number Theory, Group Theory and Ramanujan Graphs (written with Peter Sarnak and Alain Valette, 2003)
  • The Geometry of Numbers (written with Carl D. Olds and Anneli Cahn Lax, 2001)
  • Laboratories in Mathematical Experimentation: A Bridge to Higher Mathematics (1997)
