Giuliana De Sio (born April 2, 1957) is a famous Italian actress. She is the younger sister of Teresa De Sio, who is a well-known pop and folk singer. Giuliana has won two David di Donatello awards, which are like the Italian version of the Oscars. She also won a Nastro d'Argento, another major Italian film award.
Life and Acting Career
Giuliana De Sio was born in the city of Salerno, Italy. She grew up in a nearby town called Cava de' Tirreni. Her father, Alfonso De Sio, was a lawyer.
Her first time on stage was at the age of five in a show at the Teatro Verdi in Salerno. When she was 18, she moved to Rome to become an actress. Her friend, actor Alessandro Haber, encouraged her to follow her dream. Her first big role was in a TV movie called Una donna in 1977.
Rise to Fame
Giuliana became a big star in 1983. She appeared in two very popular movies: Scusate il ritardo and The Pool Hustlers. For her role in The Pool Hustlers, she won both a David di Donatello and a Nastro d'Argento for Best Actress.
She won her second David di Donatello award for the 1991 movie The Wicked. Throughout her career, she has acted in many movies and TV shows in Italy.
Personal Life
Giuliana De Sio is an atheist, which means she does not believe in a god. However, she has said that she admires Pope Francis and Saint Januarius, an important saint in Italy.
In March 2020, she became ill with COVID-19 but made a full recovery.
