Giulio Angioni (born October 28, 1939 – died January 12, 2017) was an Italian writer and anthropologist. An anthropologist studies human societies and cultures.

About Giulio Angioni

Giulio Angioni was a very important Italian anthropologist. He was a professor at the University of Cagliari in Italy. He also worked at the University of Oxford in England.

He wrote many books during his life. He published about 20 novels and 12 books of essays about anthropology.

His Ideas on Culture

In his anthropology books, Angioni explored how human life is different around the world. He looked at how people do things, say things, think, and feel. He believed these parts of human nature are all connected.

He thought that human "nature" is mostly shaped by culture. This means humans are always learning new things. He also challenged common ideas. For example, he didn't think speaking was the only special human trait. He also believed art and beauty were not separate from everyday life.

A New Wave of Sardinian Writers

Giulio Angioni is best known as a writer. He is seen as one of the people who started the "Sardinian Literary Spring." This was a new movement of writers from Sardinia, an island in Italy.

These writers brought Sardinian stories to a European audience. Other famous writers from this movement include Sergio Atzeni and Salvatore Mannuzzu. They followed in the footsteps of earlier great Sardinian authors like Grazia Deledda.

His Best Novels

Some of Angioni's most famous novels include Le fiamme di Toledo (which means Flames of Toledo). Others are Assandira, Doppio cielo (Double Sky), and L'oro di Fraus (The Gold of Fraus).

Later in his career, he also wrote poetry. He wrote poems in both the Sardinian language and Italian. His poetry collections include Tempus and Oremari.
