Playing Career Highlights
Giuseppe Poeta started his basketball journey playing for local teams in Italy. He became known for his skill as a point guard, a player who helps lead the team's offense.
Early Years in Italy
Poeta began his career with Pallacanestro Salerno, playing for five seasons. After that, he joined Prima Veroli in Italy's third division. While playing for Veroli, he once scored an amazing 51 points in a single game in November 2005.
In 2006, he moved up to the first division, Serie A, joining Teramo Basket. During the 2008-09 season, he helped his team reach the league play-offs, which are like the championship games.
Time with Virtus Bologna
Next, Poeta played for Virtus Bologna. He had two successful seasons there, helping the team reach the play-offs twice. He even became the team captain, showing his leadership skills.
However, after a tough 2012-13 season, he left the team in November 2013. This change turned out to be a good opportunity for him.
Playing in Spain and Return to Italy
Leaving Virtus Bologna allowed Poeta to join Laboral Kutxa Vitoria in Spain. This team played in the very competitive Liga ACB and the EuroLeague, which is Europe's top basketball competition. He made a great debut in January 2014, scoring 13 points in the final quarter to help his team win.
For the 2014–15 season, he joined another Spanish team, La Bruixa d'Or Manresa. Unfortunately, an injury kept him from playing most of that season.
In July 2015, Poeta returned to Italy. He signed a one-year contract with Dolomiti Energia Trento.
Later Career and Cup Win
On June 29, 2016, Poeta signed with Auxilium Torino for the 2016–17 season. A big moment came on February 18, 2018, when he helped Fiat Torino win the Italian Basketball Cup. They beat Germani Basket Brescia 69–67 in the finals.
In June 2019, he signed with Reggio Emilia. After that season, he moved to Vanoli Cremona in August 2020, where he played until 2022.
International Basketball
Giuseppe Poeta also played for the Italian national team. He was first called up in 2007 and became a regular player for his country.
He was part of the Italian squad for EuroBasket 2013, a major European championship. He also joined the preliminary squad for EuroBasket 2015, though he didn't make the final team that year.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Poeta transitioned into coaching. He has quickly made a name for himself as a promising coach.
Assistant Coach Roles
In the summer of 2022, Poeta joined the coaching staff of Olimpia Milano, a very successful Italian team, working under Coach Ettore Messina. With Olimpia Milano, he helped the team win the Italian championship (Scudetto) in both 2023 and 2024.
He also became an assistant coach for the Italian national team. He helped coach Italy in the 2022 European Championships and the 2023 World Cup. In July 2025, he was still helping prepare the team for important international games.

In the 2025 LBA playoffs, he led Germani Brescia to the finals for the first time ever! They beat Trieste 3–1 in the quarterfinals and then won a tough semifinal series against Trapani Shark 3–2. Although they lost to Virtus Bologna in the finals, reaching the finals was a huge achievement for the team under his leadership.
