Gloria Estela La Riva, born on August 13, 1954, is an American activist and politician. She is known for running in many elections, often for president or vice president. She is a member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) and the Peace and Freedom Party. She was the PSL's and Peace and Freedom's choice for president in the 2020 presidential election. This was her tenth time running for president or vice president. Before this, she was part of the Workers World Party.

Life and Political Journey
Gloria La Riva was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on August 13, 1954. After high school, she started attending Brandeis University in 1972. She first ran for president of the United States in the 1992 election. She represented the Workers World Party then. She also ran for vice president with the Workers World Party in 1984, 1988, 1996, and 2000.
Starting the Party for Socialism and Liberation
La Riva is one of the people who helped start the Party for Socialism and Liberation. This political party focuses on ideas about socialism.
Running for Governor and Mayor
La Riva also ran for Governor of California for the Peace and Freedom Party. She ran in 1994 and again in 1998. She also ran for San Francisco Mayor in 1983 and 1991. In 1983, she came in third place. In 2010, she ran for Congress and finished third.
Presidential Elections and Awards
In the 2008 presidential election, La Riva received over 6,800 votes. This was the tenth highest number of votes. She has also led the National Committee to Free the Cuban Five. This group worked to free five Cuban men held in the U.S. She also led a part of the Northern California Media Workers Union.
In 2010, La Riva ran for U.S. Congress in California. She ran against Nancy Pelosi, who was the Speaker of the House. La Riva came in third place. Also in 2010, she received the Friendship Medal from the Cuban government. This medal is given to people who show friendship to Cuba.
In the 2012 presidential election, La Riva helped another candidate, Peta Lindsay. Lindsay was too young to be on the ballot in some states. So, La Riva ran in her place in Colorado, Iowa, Utah, and Wisconsin.
In July 2015, La Riva was chosen as the PSL's presidential candidate for the 2016 election. She was on the ballot in eight states and received over 74,000 votes.
She also ran for Governor of California again in 2018.
For the 2020 presidential election, she was again chosen by the Party of Socialism and Liberation. Her running mate was Sunil Freeman. She also won the Peace & Freedom Party primary in California and the nomination of the Liberty Union Party in Vermont. In the 2020 election, she received over 85,000 votes across the country.
Other Activities
Gloria La Riva has also worked on other projects. She translated a book by Fidel Castro called Cuba at the Crossroads. She also made documentary videos. These videos include NATO Targets, Workers' Democracy in Cuba (1996), Genocide by Sanctions: The Case of Iraq (1998), and Let Iraq Live!.
