History of the Church
Early Beginnings (1876-1939)
The first time people interested in Spiritualism met in Gloucester was way back in 1876. However, it took many years for them to have an official church building. An actual place of worship was not created until 1939.
Founding and Changes (1939-1981)
In 1939, the group officially formed the Gloucester Spiritualist Church. They met on Russell Street. This was noted in a well-known book called Kelly's Directory. Later, in April 1954, the church experienced a split. Some members formed a new group called the Gloucester National Spiritualist Church. But the original Gloucester Spiritualist Church kept going strong.
In 1959, the church moved to its current location in Montpellier. Then, in 1981, it changed its name to what we know it as today: the Gloucester First Spiritualist Church. It has been active ever since, providing a place for its community.
