The Gloucester National Spiritualist Church is a special church located in Brunswick Square in the city of Gloucester, United Kingdom. It is a place where people practice Spiritualism. This church first opened its doors in April 1954.
History of the Church
How the Church Started
The Gloucester National Spiritualist Church started because a group of people decided to form a new church. They had been part of the Gloucester First Spiritualist Church. In April 1954, some members wanted to join the National Spiritualist Union, which is a larger organization for spiritualists. Others did not agree, so they formed their own church. At first, they held their meetings in a basement room.
Finding a New Home
A few years later, on June 14, 1959, the church leaders found out about a building for sale on Brunswick Square. This building had a meeting room and was previously used by another group called the Christian Brethren. The church bought this building. On March 31, 1962, the new church building officially opened its doors.
Improvements Over Time
After moving into their new home, the church made some important updates. In 1979, they added gas heating to keep everyone warm during services. Two years later, in 1981, they installed a water supply. These changes helped make the church a more comfortable place for its members.
