Go-Stop facts for kids
Go-Stop (고스톱) is a fun Korean card game. It is also known as Godori. This game uses special cards called Hanafuda.
Hanafuda cards have 48 cards in total. These cards are grouped into 12 sets of 4 cards each. Each set represents a different month of the year. Go-Stop is usually played by three people. However, two players can play, or even more than four players can join in.
People often play Go-Stop for fun with their friends or family. It has become very popular online in Korea. Many people enjoy playing it on the internet.
How to Play Go-Stop
The basic rules of Go-Stop are similar everywhere. But some small details might change depending on where you play.
Getting Started
First, players decide who goes first. Then, each player receives 7 cards. Six cards are placed face down on the playing surface. The first player then chooses one card from their hand. They try to match it with a card on the table. This is how the game begins. Play continues in a counter-clockwise direction.
Earning Points
Players earn points by collecting certain cards. Each card has a different point value. The goal is to collect enough points to win.
Winning the Game
To win a round, a player needs to get at least 3 points. Once a player reaches 3 points, they have a choice. They can choose "Stop" or "Go".
- If a player chooses "Stop", the game ends. The player who stopped wins the round. Other players then acknowledge the winner's points. A new game starts with the winner going first.
- If a player chooses "Go", the game keeps going. The player who chose "Go" needs to earn at least 1 more point. This allows them to choose "Go" or "Stop" again.
The "Go" Risk
Choosing "Go" can be exciting but also risky. If another player gets 3 points before the "Go" player gets their extra point, the other player can stop the game. In this case, the new player becomes the winner. This rule makes Go-Stop very interesting and adds a lot of excitement!
