Homiel Voblast, also known as Gomel Oblast, is a special region in the country of Belarus. Think of a voblast like a large province or state. Its main city and administrative center is Homyel. This is where the region's government is located.

The Homiel Voblast is home to many important cities. Besides Homyel, other big cities include Mazyr, Zhlobin, Svetlahorsk, Rechytsia, Kalinkavichy, Rahachow, and Dobrush. These cities are important centers for people living and working in the region.

About Homiel Voblast

Homiel Voblast is one of the six main regions in Belarus. It is located in the southeastern part of the country. The region covers a large area of about 40,400 square kilometers (about 15,600 square miles). This makes it a very big part of Belarus.

Around 1.5 million people live in Homiel Voblast. This means it is a busy and important area for the country. The region has a long history and is known for its natural beauty and industries.

Nature and Environment

The Homiel Voblast has beautiful natural areas, including rivers and forests. However, some parts of the region were affected by a past event. This was the Chernobyl disaster, which happened at a nuclear power plant in nearby Ukraine.

Because of this event, some areas in Homiel Voblast became unsafe for people to live in. This was due to certain materials that spread into the environment. As a result, some people had to move from their homes to safer places. The region continues to manage these areas carefully.

How the Region is Organized

The Homiel Voblast is divided into smaller parts to help manage it better. It has 21 main areas called raions, which are like local districts. These raions help organize local services and communities.

Within these raions, there are 17 cities and 8 city municipalities. There are also 278 smaller urban areas and over 2,600 villages. This shows how many different communities make up the Homiel Voblast.
