The Goodall Building is a historic building in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. It was built a long time ago, in 1893. This special building was designed by an architect named George W. Rapp. It is known for its beautiful and old-fashioned design.

A Look at the Goodall Building

The Goodall Building stands on Ninth Street in the downtown area of Cincinnati. It was created to be a place for businesses. The outside walls are mostly made of strong brick and sandstone. You can also see parts made of iron and other types of stone on the outside.

Who Owned the Building?

The first owner of this building was William Goodall. He was a businessman who sold large blocks of stone. He sold granite and marble for many different uses. Before and after building this structure, he had his own business nearby.

Mr. Goodall did not use his new building for his own stone business. Instead, he rented it out to other companies. Banks and various company offices were some of his first tenants.

The Building's Special Design

The Goodall Building looks different from other buildings around it. This is because of its unique design style. It uses many features from something called Second Renaissance Revival architecture. This style was popular a long time ago.

What Makes It Special?

The building has many stone details that make it stand out. You can see tall, decorative columns and pilasters (flat columns attached to the wall). It also has a fancy cornice at the top. A cornice is a decorative molding that sticks out from the top of a wall.

Large blocks of sandstone were used in its construction. The building also features special oriel windows. These are windows that stick out from the main wall of the building. Because of these features, experts say it is one of the best examples of this building style in Cincinnati.

A Special Historic Place

The Goodall Building has kept its historic design very well. Because of its well-preserved architecture, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This happened in early 1984. Being on this list means it is a very important historic site.
