Goodenia concinna is a type of flowering plant found only along the coast of southern Western Australia. It belongs to the Goodeniaceae family. This plant is a perennial herb, meaning it lives for more than two years and has soft stems. It has long, thin leaves and produces yellow or cream-colored flowers that grow in clusters.

What it Looks Like

Goodenia concinna is a plant that stands upright or leans slightly. It usually grows to be about 15 to 40 centimeters (6 to 16 inches) tall.

Its leaves are found at the bottom of the plant. They are shaped like a spear, measuring about 3 to 9 centimeters (1.2 to 3.5 inches) long and 1 to 8 millimeters (0.04 to 0.3 inches) wide.

The flowers grow in a cluster called a raceme, which can be up to 8 centimeters (3 inches) long. Each flower has small, leaf-like parts called bracts at its base. The flowers sit on tiny stems called pedicels, which are about 1 to 2 centimeters (0.4 to 0.8 inches) long.

The small, leaf-like parts under the flower, called sepals, are about 1.5 to 2.5 millimeters (0.06 to 0.1 inches) long. The petals, which form the corolla, are yellow or cream-colored and about 1 to 1.4 centimeters (0.4 to 0.6 inches) long. The lower parts of the petals have small "wings" that are about 1.5 millimeters (0.06 inches) wide.

This plant blooms from August to November. After flowering, it produces a round fruit called a capsule, which is a type of seed pod. These capsules are about 5 to 6 millimeters (0.2 to 0.24 inches) long.

Plant Name and History

The plant Goodenia concinna was first officially described in 1868. This was done by a botanist named George Bentham in his book Flora Australiensis.

The second part of its scientific name, concinna, comes from a Latin word. It means "neat," "pretty," or "elegant," which describes the plant's appearance.

Where it Grows

This type of goodenia plant likes to grow in sandy areas. You can find it in heathlands and forests near the southern coast of Western Australia.

How it is Protected

The Department of Environment and Conservation (Western Australia) has looked at Goodenia concinna. They have classified it as "not threatened." This means the plant is not currently in danger of disappearing.
