Goodnight, Oklahoma facts for kids
Goodnight is a small, quiet place in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It's not a big city or town with its own government, but rather an unincorporated community that spreads across parts of two different areas: Logan County and Payne County.
Goodnight's Story
Goodnight began its journey in the year 1900. This was an exciting time because the railroad was being built and it reached this spot. When the railroad arrived, it often meant new communities would grow up around it.
A post office was also set up in Goodnight in 1900, which was very important for people to send and receive letters and packages. This post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1949.
The name "Goodnight" comes from an early settler in the area named Jake Goodnight. The community was named in his honor, remembering his role as a pioneer citizen.
